Scaling and kinetic exchange like behavior of Hirsch index and total citation distributions: Scopus-CiteScore data analysis

چکیده

We analyze the data distributions f(h), f(Nc) and f(Np) of Hirsch index (h), total citations (Nc) number papers (Np) top scoring 120,000 authors (scientists) from Stanford cite-score (or c-score) 2022 list their corresponding h (3≤h≤284), Nc(1009≤Nc≤428620) Np (3≤Np≤3791) statistics Scopus data. For reasons explained in text, we divided these scorers (c-scores range 5.6125 to 3.3461) into six successive equal-sized Groups 20,000 or scientists. tried fit, each Group, with Gamma distributions, viewing them as “wealth distributions” fixed saving-propensity kinetic exchange models found f(h)∼hγhexp(−h/Th) fitting noise level temperature (Th) average value h, power γh determined by “citation saving propensity” Group. further showed that using some earlier proposed law scaling like h=DcNcαc h=DpNpαp) αc=1/2=αp, can derive observed f(h) f(Np), Dc=0.5, but Dp depending on Group considered. This observation suggests per paper (Nc/Np) group (=(Dp/Dc)2=4Dp2) vary (from 58 29) c-score considered here, implying different effective Dunbar-like coordination numbers scientists belonging groups networks.

a contrastive study of rhetorical functions of citation in iranian and international elt scopus journals

writing an academic article requires the researchers to provide support for their works by learning how to cite the works of others. various studies regarding the analysis of citation in m.a theses have been done, while little work has been done on comparison of citations among elt scopus journal articles, and so the dearth of research in this area demands for further investigation into citatio...

Evaluating the status of agricultural articles of Iranian researchers at the Scopus citation database based on the Hirsch index

Background and aim: Today, the use of scientometric methods to evaluate the scientific outputs of researchers in various fields has been highly regarded and the Hirsch index (h-index) is one of the most important scientometric indices due to the simultaneous measurement of quantity and quality of scientific outputs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the status of Iranian agricult...

Self-citation corrections for the Hirsch index

I propose to sharpen the index h, proposed by Hirsch as a useful index to characterize the scientific output of a researcher, by excluding the self-citations. Performing a self-experiment and also discussing in detail two anonymous data sets, it is shown that self-citations can significantly reduce the h index in contrast to Hirsch’s expectations. This result is confirmed by an analysis of 13 f...

Hirsch index rankings require scaling and higher moment

Simple bibliometric indicators, such as average number of citations per publication per researcher, or the recently-proposed Hirsch index (h-index), are nowadays tracked by online repositories including Web-of-Science (WOS) and often affect critical decision making. This work proposes appropriate scaling of the h-index, based on its probability distribution which is calculated for any underlyin...
